Sammy is getting so big. She also has so much hair that makes her look a lot older than she is but she is still just little...

This is Abby's new princess bed in the middle of her jungle room. She loves the bed but also likes to sleep on the "crouton" that is in her room.

Welcome to our blog. These are our girls. Abigail (Abby) 2 1/2 years old in her new coat, picking her nose and Samantha (Baby Sam or Sammy) 4 months old with a funky baby do. We are currently living in Golders Green, London England. It is our fourth year here and we still love it. Charles' firm just moved offices from St. Paul's Exchange Place to Liverpool Street, where he is close to more restaurants, great markets and good shopping! I (Joyce or commonly known as Joycee) stay at home and take care of my two little girls. We have a great time going to Topsy Turvy, Clown Town, shopping, attending various playgroups, hanging out with friends and watching the Wiggles (or whatever show Abby happens to be into at the time). Abby is an active and boisterous child at home but when we are out in public, she is pretty much an angel. So, everyone thinks she is a perfect child and though she is pretty good, she certainly has her share of two-year old moments i.e. tantrums. She loves to read books. Her favorite books are Doctor Suess ones at the moment. She also loves bouncy castles, setting up her Thomas the Tank choo choo train and eating corn cakes. Sammy is four months old and is a very smiley baby. She just rolled all the way over for the first time today. She does not like to be hungry, tired or sitting in a dirty nappy. She is pretty normal in that respect.

(Begins in 1885, with the British invasion of Mandalay and the capture of the Burmese king and queen, and encompassing over 100 years to modern-day India and Burma (Myanmar). It was a great read.)

-Brick Lane by Monica Ali
(I liked this book a lot except for the middle part where you are reading a bunch of letters written in poor English. I could have done without that.)

(This book is about Queen Mary, Katherine of Aragon's daughter, and the Queen-to-be Elizabeth, Anne Boleyn's daughter. There is also a fictional character Hannah. I loved it!)

-Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach

(A great overview of recent Afghan history. Check out the bookseller's rebuttal book published this year.)

-Virgins of Paradise by Barbara Wood
(I loved this book. It focuses on an Egyptian family from the 1940s to the present. It was a really good look at Egyptian culture and politics as they have changed through the years.)

-A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

-The Chosen by Chaim Potok
(This is a good look at Jewish life. I liked reading the history of the formation of the state of Israel and the different reactions of various Jews throughout the book.)

(I am still in the process of reading this book)

(I admit, I skimmed this. It was long with too much political rhetoric for my taste.)

(I didn't like this book, I wouldn't recommend it.)

-The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
(This was an amazing book. I could have read it in one night, easily. I could not put it down. It is about an innocent boy living outside the fence of a concentration camp.)

(I loved this book. It is a very detailed account of the hajj and her take on Islam.)

--The Year That Changed The World: The Untold Story Behind the Fall of the Berlin Wall by Michael Meyer
(Meyer is a myth buster. The myth he tackles in this book is Americans' idea that communist regimes in the Cold War fell because of the United States' involvement. He is an excellent historian. I really enjoyed this book!)

--Hunting Eichmann: How a Band of Survivors and a Young Spy Agency Chased Down the World's Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb
(This book is now on my list of all-time favorites. It was thrilling and so fascinating. I highly recommend it!)

--Kabul Beauty School by Deborah Rodriguez
(I loved this book. It was adventurous and inspiring!)
