Princess Cupcakes and The Natural History Museum

So what do princess cupcakes and The Natural History Museum have in common? Nothing, other than the fact that I am posting both sets of pictures at the same time.

This past week, Abby, Sammy and I made princess cupcakes. As we were frosting them, Sammy discovered that she too can stand on a stool at the counter and "help" me. It was fine for making cupcakes but when it is time to make dinner and I have two eager beavers at the counter ready to "help," it is not so great. I find it gets a bit crowded and I am much less efficient. We are definitely going to have to figure out some other arrangement...

Here is a picture of Abby on Remembrance Sunday. I love this tradition here. Throughout the months of October and November, people all over Britain buy poppies (the red flower Abby is wearing) and pin them on their coats, hats, and tops. Then every second Sunday in November there is a moment of silence to remember all those who have lost their lives in war (going as far back as WWI, which is still very important and well remembered here). This year, we all sported a poppy even Sammy. Abby was very excited about hers. She wore it on her coat to school several times. Charles was very proud.

This past Friday, some friends of ours were in town from Moscow, Russia so we went on an excursion to the Natural History Museum with them. There is a great ice rink and a lovely Christmas market setup out front. Abby loved watching the ice skaters.

Abby loves riding the tube (the subway). It is the highlight to any trip downtown no matter what we are doing or where we are going.

Elieson Family said...: Yeah, I don't know why but I don't appreciate the kids' help as much as I THOUGHT I would... kudos for doing that in your pint-size kitchen there. Even here in VA, where ours is an eat-in kitchen, I hesitate letting the kids help me. I think it's also the fact that the hob is usually on.
We LOVE that museum - I think it was our favorite. Last year I tried to take Salem ice-skating but it was all booked, and I was pregnant. But the little fair was nice, I recall. And my kids were the same with the tube. I'm surprized you took a photo! I was always too nervous like somebody would be scared I was taking a picture. (This book is about Queen Mary, Katherine of Aragon's daughter, and the Queen-to-be Elizabeth, Anne Boleyn's daughter. There is also a fictional character Hannah. I loved it!)

(This is a good look at Jewish life. I liked reading the history of the formation of the state of Israel and the different reactions of various Jews throughout the book.)

(I loved this book. It is a very detailed account of the hajj and her take on Islam.)

--The Year That Changed The World: The Untold Story Behind the Fall of the Berlin Wall by Michael Meyer
(Meyer is a myth buster. The myth he tackles in this book is Americans' idea that communist regimes in the Cold War fell because of the United States' involvement. He is an excellent historian. I really enjoyed this book!)

--Hunting Eichmann: How a Band of Survivors and a Young Spy Agency Chased Down the World's Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb
(This book is now on my list of all-time favorites. It was thrilling and so fascinating. I highly recommend it!)

(I loved this book. It was adventurous and inspiring!)
