Emergency Headband

Abby has this very strange attachment to headbands. I always knew this but it really became apparent in Utah when other people started commenting on it. That is when I realized that her headband obsession is pretty funny.

For example, while in Utah, Abby had her hair done in the morning by Bethy in two french braids. It was very cute and she loved it. Later that day, we got home and she was in a very bad mood. She would not talk to anyone or tell them what was wrong. She just cry or whine. Upon seeing her, I immediately knew I needed to take out her braids and give her a headband and she was then very happy and content. Beth and others in the family were amazed by this. Abby has been like this for a year or two now and I almost don't think about it.

Another time, we were at the mall and Abby was grumpy and not behaving. She starting throwing a fit while I was trying to buy some shoes. I immediately took her hair out of the two elastics it was in and gave her the "emergency headband" I had put in the bag for her. She then was very nice and happy and behaved well for the rest of the shopping trip. Charles' cousin Cindy was amazed.

In fact, a year or so ago Abby would wake up in the morning and the absolute first thing she would want would be her headband. She would come into our room and wake us up crying for her headband. I got so tired of being woke up that way and being forced to get up and go in her room for her headband that I started putting an "emergency headband" on my nightstand so I could simply hand it to her without getting out of bed. After that she started to insist on sleeping with them on her head every night, which seems quite uncomfortable to me. We only recently started making her take them off when she goes to bed.

It is also the first thing she has to put on when she gets home from school.

What a funny girl!

This is like my Travis' obsession with my hair scrunchies. To calm him down, all you need do is put a scrunchie on each wrist and he's good to go. He sleeps with them too.

Hi Joyce, I had found your blog through the Mladineo's too. It's so great to be able to hear about your lives this way. Your girls are absolutely beautiful! You said that you are thinking about moving back to the states. Where do you have in mind? I know the Mladineo's were trying to convince you to move to Chicago. I'm sure London has been an amazing experience, but it would be nice to be able to see family a little more often. It was so good to hear from you. Keep in touch.

This is very funny... I guess we all have the things we are attached to. I've had a hairband around my wrist for the last 8 years. It's either in my hair or it's on my wrist. I never have to look for a hairband that way... there have been a few times that it broke and I felt completely naked until I (quickly) replaced it.

Guess her feel-good *lovey* is her headbands. Only a mom would know this... and not be phased by it... and find ways to always have an "emergency" one on hand. :)
