Me? A Race Car Driver. Hmmm... I like the sound of that!

This past Friday, my friend and I decided to spice up our dull and boring lives as housewives and do a little race car driving. Mazda had set up a race track at the mall near our house and so it was the perfect venue for our adventurous exploits. Also, since I have just recently acquired my U.K. driving license, I thought I would take it out for a spin. We went down to the mall with three kids in tow and signed up. The Mazda people saw my brand new driver's license (I passed my test four days previous) and mocked me endlessly about being a brand new driver. I kept reminding them that I was not a new driver and that I have been driving for 15 years or so but I think they just liked the idea that a mother of two with a brand new driver's license was going to race one of their cars. After a briefing, we were sent off to our cars accompanied by a professional driver. I was not used to the power and handling that these cars had. They were only Mazdas but they did have some incredible power that my little French car (Citroen Xantia) does not have. The professional driver, Nick, kept telling me to give it more gas and stop stepping on the brake. I drove as fast as I could around the tight turns and curves of the race track. I made three attempts. If you take a close look at the picture above and the picture below, you will see my racing times. The picture above was my second attempt, 29 seconds. My first attempt was a slow 30 seconds (see below). After looking at the Mazda website, I apparently did not do so badly. Out of 250 drivers, I placed 44th! Isn't that amazing? I WAS BORN to race!!!

Here is a picture of me racing through the course. Check out the course at http://www.mazda.co.uk/ and click on Hot Laps Challenge. I did the London race course at Brent Cross Mall.

Ah man! That looks awesome! I would have loved doing that. Although I doubt my diplomatic license would've been kosher with them...
