A Day Out of London

This past Saturday, we decided to go on a daytrip somewhere outside of London. I suggested we go to Stratford-Upon-Avon (Shakespeare's home village). Charles disagreed. He thought there would be too many tourists on a sunny, hot Saturday in the middle of August. So, we decided to just drive east until we hit the beach and have a picnic. As we were leaving London, we made one quick stop at Toys R Us and bought Sammy a new toddler carseat. She was much happier facing forward and looking at the window as we drove. We traveled for about two hours and still had about an hour or so until we hit the end of the island. This was just about the time when Abby and Sam were crying and tired of being in the car. So we checked out the map for a nice village that we could stop at as our new destination. We found a small village called Maldon located on the River Blackwater. Its high street was lined wtih shops and inns from the 16th century. It was also once an important harbor. A battle took place there in 991, when Viking invaders defeated the Saxon defenders. We spent the day walking along the promenade, looking at the boats, playing in the sand, picnicing and watching all the people. It was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday.

I promise to update my page when we move in and my computer gets set up. Your day out in a small village is making me sick for England...
Sammy is getting so BIG! Stratford isn't much more inviting than any other small town in England, but it has a fantastic lawn on the Avon where there's a great carosel. It's adjacent to the Royal Shakespear Company too, which was WAY cool for me to check out. Would've been cooler had Kenneth Brannaugh walked through while I was there.. but hey. I'll try out your recipe when I'm moved in!
